Dear Year 6 parents,

After half term Year 6 are taking part in Forest School sessions on the following Tuesday afternoons:

2nd, 9th, 16th, 23rd, 30th June
7th & 14th July

Please send your child into school wearing clothes that are suitable for outdoor exploring – their blue school jumper/cardigan with blue/navy long bottoms (long sleeves/long trousers are essential), wellies or walk boots (even when dry), and waterproof coat. We are hoping a sun hat may be needed too! Please could they wear trainers or other spare shoes into school so that the wellies are just used outdoors.

SWIMMING

From Thursday 16th April – 25th June, Year 3 will have 10 weeks of swimming lessons at Marlborough Leisure Centre. We will leave school at 1pm and return for 3pm. The school minibuses will be used to transport the children both ways. Can you please make sure that your child’s swimming costume and towel are named and placed in a suitable bag, which should also be named.

We do need two parent volunteers to accompany us each week, please email the school office if you are able to help please. You would need to be at school by 1pm to accompany us on the bus.

We ask for a voluntary contribution of £42.50 (£4.25 per child per week) to help towards the cost of transport and lessons. Please give consent and make payment via your MCAS account (you will see it listed under clubs). Dear Parents,

We have planned a range of exciting music opportunities taking place both in school and at the Newbury Corn Exchange for term 5.

All children will be able to experience a range of musical concerts and workshops which will be held at school and St Mary’s Church, Great Bedwyn, during the school day. Some classes will also have the opportunity to attend an open rehearsal style concert at the Newbury Corn Exchange as part of the Spring Music Festival. The Newbury Spring Festival will see classes attend a range of performances. We are thrilled to be able to plan so many musical opportunities for our children as so many are aspiring musicians already.

Please find further details below about the performances we have planned. Via your MCAS account, please give consent for your child to travel off site for the Newbury Spring Festival and pay the £6.15 which will cover the coach travel and performance at Newbury Corn Exchange.

In order that these events may take place, it is necessary to ask for a voluntary contribution. There is no obligation to contribute, and no student in the group will be omitted from the trip if their parents do not contribute. It is true, however, that the events will not take place if sufficient voluntary contributions are not forthcoming, as there is no other source of funding for the trip. In case of financial hardship, support may be available and a letter to the Principal will be dealt with confidentially and sympathetically.

24th April, 2026 – Orlando Jopling – A British cellist known for combining classical performance with creative collaborations across music, film and visual art

5th June, 2026 – Jamie Cochrane – An internationally recognised classical pianist and previous winner of Young Musician of the Year, Jamie studied at the Royal Academy of Music and is most recently the 2024 winner of the Norah Sande Award.

10th July, 2026 – Paddington Trio – An ensemble of piano, violin and cello, known for their energetic and accessible performances.

Performances and workshop at St Mary’s Church, Great Bedwyn (for all year groups):

8th May, 2026 – Music for Awhile – Harpsichord – An ensemble that blends classical, baroque and contemporary music in imaginative performances. We will walk to the church for this performance, leaving the school at 2.10pm. We do need parents from all classes to walk down with us, please let the office know if you can help. Children will not be returning to school after the church so should be collected from the church at 3.15pm (this performance is not open to parents unless you are walking with us). School buses and the Shalbourne bus will pick up from the church. If your child brings a packed lunch to school please provide this in a disposable paper bag, so there are no lunch boxes to take to the church.

20th May, 2026 – Benedetti foundation – school musical workshop. We will walk to the church for this workshop, leaving the school at 10.40am. We do need parents from all classes to walk down with us (and back with us at 12.10pm), please let the school office know if you can help. We will return to school for a late lunch.

Visits to the Newbury Spring Festival:

12th May, 2026 – Year 1 and 2 will be visiting Newbury Corn Exchange to watch RANT, a Scottish folk group. We will travel to Newbury on a coach, leaving school at 1pm and returning at 3.30pm. We do need 4 parent helpers to accompany us please, but actually have enough space on the coach and tickets for up to 10 parents, if you can/would like to join us please let the office know.

14th May, 2026 – Year 4 and 5 will be visiting Newbury Corn Exchange to watch Gilbert and Sullivan Operetta. We will travel to Newbury on a coach, leaving school at 12noon and returning at 3pm. Dear Parents,

Year 6 will be visiting Salisbury Cathedral on Wednesday 10th June as part of The Diocese of Salisbury year 6 leavers service. Your child needs to be in school at 8:20 am as we will be leaving promptly at 8:30 am.

They need FULL smart school uniform, including a school sweatshirt, water bottle and packed lunch (this needs to be in a named disposable carrier bag- NOT a rucksack as we are not allowed to take these into the cathedral).

We will be choosing 3 representatives from the class, 2 as banner bearers, and one as a candle bearer. These children need to have photo permission. There will also be a photograph of all the children taking part with the Bishop, so we also need photograph permissions completed for this trip. Please email the school by the 3rd June if you do not wish your child to be included in this photograph.

There is no cost for this trip, please give consent for your child to go via your MCAS account (listed under trips), by 3rd June.

Dear Parents,

The annual Cross Country takes place at 9.30am on Friday 12th June. Children from year 2 upwards run/walk a distance of approximately 2.5 miles starting and finishing in the school and incorporating a field or two!

Children should come to school in their PE kit, with sun screen on and have a sun hat and a water bottle with them.

For this event, we need a great deal of adult help to ensure all our children are safe. Many people will be placed out on the course so that every child can see an adult at any one time; time keepers are also needed so that every child has a final time.

This can only go ahead if we have enough parent helpers, please email the school office to let us know if you are able to help. We will then confirm details back to you nearer the time.

This year, Sports Day is taking place on Monday 15th June, starting at 1pm. The format will be very similar to last year’s event with everything taking place on the field and Junior Pitch. There will be a carousel of events with the children competing in each event within their class. As last year, there will be a competitive element to the day with your child/ children being put into a Colour Team that they will be representing, and earning points for, on the day. At the end of the day, the winning Colour Team will be announced and a trophy awarded. Please be aware that the logistics of trying to ensure siblings are all in the same Colour Team is not something that we feel is achievable so will not necessarily be the case. Your child/children will be told by Friday 5th June which Colour Team they are in (please look out for a slip in their bookbag).
On the day, children should come in wearing their Great Bedwyn PE kit (navy shorts, white Great Bedwyn PE t-shirt, trainers). If your child would like to, please encourage them to wear an accessory relating to their Colour Team: a red sweatband; orange hair clips; a blue wristband etc. This is not compulsory and will not be the way we identify which Colour Team they are in.

Dear Parents and Carers,
Your child has been chosen to attend a Quadkids Festival at Marlborough College on Thursday 18th June 2026. We will be leaving Great Bedwyn at 8.50am and returning at approximately 12.45pm.
The main aim of this festival is to develop confidence and competence within physical activity as well as developing sports skills.
This event will take place outside at the Marlborough College Athletics Track so please take the weather into consideration (hats and suncream, a waterproof jacket if wet). They will be allocated a Great Bedwyn sports kit that they are invited to come into school wearing on the day. Please ensure it is taken home afterwards, washed and returned to school as soon as possible. Please also ensure your child has plenty to drink and a snack, as well as a packed lunch. The event finishes at 12.15 so it is unlikely that the children will be back in time to ensure they have their hot dinner so a packed lunch is the safest option!
We will be using our school minibuses to transport the children to the event. These will be leaving promptly at 8.50am so please ensure your child as at school, in the correct kit, promptly on the day.
We are in need of a couple of parent volunteers. If you are able, and would like to, accompany the children to the event, please let the office staff know. Transport is available.

Year 2 Summer Term Trips- Marlborough Merchant House and the Hawk Conservancy Trust
As part of our curriculum learning in the summer term we would like to go on two trips. The first of these trips will support our history learning and will be to the Merchant House in Marlborough. At the Merchant House we will by learning about life in 17th Century Marlborough and about the Great Fire of Marlborough.
The date of the trip will be Monday 22nd June. We will be leaving school at 9.00 and intend to return by 12.00.
Your child will not require a packed lunch and will need to wear school uniform.
The second trip will support our science learning about animal adaptations. This trip will be to the Hawk Conservancy Trust.
The date of this trip will be Thursday 2nd July. We will be leaving school at 9.00 and intend to return by 3.15.
Your child will require a packed lunch in a disposable bag and will need to wear school uniform.
In order that the trips may take place, it is necessary to ask for a voluntary contribution. There is no obligation to contribute, and no student in the group will be omitted from the trip if their parents do not contribute. Dear Parents and Carers,

On Tuesday 23rd June 2026, Year 5 are going to explore the River Dunn, in Great Bedwyn, as part of our Art Topic this term. We will be leaving school after break and walking down to the river in order to create observational sketches and take photos. At a later date, we will use viewfinders to create detailed paintings of what we observed and use a variety of paint types to create visually stunning pieces for you to all admire at the Art Exhibition (date TBC)!
The Local Area Visit does involve being close to water. As such, a robust risk assessment has been carried out and the children will be spoken to prior to the trip to ensure everyone understands the importance of being safe and listening to all adults present. We do not need any volunteers this time, thank you.
Please ensure wellies are in school on the day and a change of clothes is brought in just in case. The children will also need to wear a hat and have suncream on if it is hot. We will back in time for lunch, so a packed lunch is not needed.

Dear parents,
Following the details below that I sent out yesterday regarding our new parents group, I wanted to clarify that this group is open to any parents who feel their child may be struggling at school and support from other parents in a similar position may be helpful.
Roots and Shoots – Reaching Out, Offering Trusted Support is a parent-led group for families navigating the SEND process. The group aims to provide a welcoming and supportive space where parents can share celebrations, moments of joy, worries and challenges with others who may have had similar experiences. While the group may not always provide answers, it offers an opportunity for parents to feel heard, understood and supported through shared experiences. A member of school staff will join the final 10 minutes of each session to listen to any useful feedback, suggestions or key themes raised by parents.
The first meeting will be Friday 26th June at 9am to 10am.

For this final visit, the children will have another play and stay in the reception classroom, while parents attend a meeting in the school hall. Please drop your child off at the Reception classroom before coming to the School Office for 1.10pm. All parents and carers will be welcomed into the School Hall where there will be an introductory talk from Michelle Perrett, the School Principal, and our Reception class teachers, as well as representatives from the GBSA (the School’s parent fundraising body) and other members of staff and Governors. There will also be an opportunity to ask any questions that you may have, and also to purchase school reading folders and PE kit bags. The GBSA will also be selling second hand school uniform on this afternoon.

Ms Flower would like to invite you to a meeting about your child’s upcoming Isle of Wight trip. She will be going over the activities your child will be doing as well as giving out a KIT list, you will also be able to ask any questions you may have.
The meeting will be on Monday 13th July straight after school up in the year 6 classroom.

Please send your child into school wearing clothes that are suitable for outdoor exploring – their blue school jumper/cardigan with blue/navy long bottoms (long sleeves/long trousers are essential), wellies or walk boots (even when dry), and waterproof coat. We are hoping a sun hat may be needed too! Please could they wear trainers or other spare shoes into school so that the wellies are just used outdoors.

We do need 1 parent helper each week please. This would involve coming to school from school for 1pm, we will be going on the school mini buses (you can travel with us) and will be back by 3pm. If you could help out, please email [email protected] (and we will confirm back to you).

Dear Parents and Carers,
We are delighted to invite you to our Party in the Park, our end-of-year academic celebration!
Please join us for an evening of fun, music, and community. Bring along your friends and family, a picnic blanket, and enjoy singing and dancing to the fantastic live band 24/7.
At 5:00pm, we warmly invite you to watch the whole school come together and sing, in addition to a performance by Miss Charlotte’s Dance Club.
There will also be a bar run by the GBSA and a variety of delicious food trucks available throughout the evening.

Dear parents,
After half term children from year 3 will be attending our Thursday Community Lunch, which takes place at St Mary’s Church, Great Bedwyn. Each week a group of children will be attending the Community Lunch leaving school at 11.30am and returning at 1.00pm. Once at the church they will be will be serving food, clearing and washing up.
