Religious Education
Our R.E teaching is based around the Emmanuel R.E scheme, which is used to teach the subject across the school.
The Emmanuel R.E. scheme ensures that each year group is taught about Christianity, with Christmas and Easter given fresh treatment, which develops children’s learning in a systematic way. Each year group also covers enquiries into Hinduism, Judaism, Buddhism, Islam and Sikhism.
This scheme equips children to celebrate Diversity and has strong links to British Values. It is sequenced to build on prior knowledge and experiences. Proof of Progress tasks are undertaken at the end of each unit of learning to demonstrate children’s knowledge and understanding. These POP tasks encourage children to discuss the concepts in their own lives, apply the taught concepts and link to other faiths and their own personal views.
Although we teach R.E as a specific subject area, we also recognise the links within other subjects and how learning can be embedded and enriched across the Curriculum and the wider life of the School. There are many links made to R.E in Collective Act of Worship (CAW), PSHRSEE, Music, History, Geography, Science and our Learning Beyond the Curriculum.
Our R.E curriculum is enriched with children’s participation; at Christmas, Reception perform the Nativity and the older KS1 pupils perform The Christmas Story. Years 3, 4 and 5 actively participate in our Harvest and Easter church services and Year 6 in our Leavers’ services. Year 4 also take an active role in leading worship in C.A.W throughout the year. We have enjoyed taking our CAW into the bluebell woods, harvest fields and our Easter service as an Easter parade around the village.
The RE Curriculum is enriched further with our School Choir which frequently performs – singing carols around the village, visiting elderly residents at Brendon Care home and taking part in concerts such as iSingPop. These events very much include our local community, particularly at key Christian events in the calendar.
