Computing
We understand that technology is changing the lives of everyone and is an integral part of everyday life. Through teaching Computing, we equip our children to participate in a rapidly changing world, where work and leisure activities are increasingly transformed by technology. Our intention is to use IT in creative and meaningful contexts across the curriculum and to give the children experience of using a range of technologies. Our Computing curriculum prepares the pupils to use computational thinking and creativity to understand and change the world.
Computing covers three distinct but related aspects:
- Computer Science β This teaches pupils the principles of information and computation, how digital systems work and how to put this knowledge to use through programming.
- Information Technology β Teaching children to create programs, systems and a range of content.
- Digital Literacy – Teaching pupils to use technology to express themselves and develop their ideas, evaluate digital content and use technology safely and respectfully.
Computing is a hugely diverse subject; pupils will become app and web developers, computer scientists, software engineers, programmers, games designers, digital artists, animators, data analysts and book authors. We follow the Purple Mash Scheme. Through following this program, we aim to provide a fun, engaging and high-quality computing education for all pupils at Great Bedwyn School.
βThe people who are crazy enough to think they can change the world are the ones who do.β Steve Jobs, founder of Apple
